Jam msc chemistry book is provided plz

Ayush Mishra 15th Jan, 2020

Hey aspirant!

IITJAM Chemistry paper consists question from three basic sections of chemistry that is, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry. Although few other subjects like analytical chemistry also contain some weightage but it can be grouped into the above three subjects also. Now, the books for IITJAM Chemistry which you should refer are given below although I would advise to study some of them only if you have your basics clear as they are quite descriptive and you have to be clever enough to understand the important topics and the not-so important ones. The books which you should refer are:-

Inorganic Chemistry:- JD Lee, Meissler-Tarr, James E.Huheey. These are the authors of the books and the names of the books are different but are commonly known by these names only. Also you must refer to Vogel's Qualitative Inorganic Analysis book as in my opinion it is the best for inorganic analysis.

Organic Chemistry:- You can refer the books by these authors IL Finar , PS Kalsi and also Mehta and Mehta is good in clearing the basics and reaction mechanisms.

Physical Chemistry:- You can refer these books (these are the commonly known authors of the books) Peter Atkins, Samuel Glasstone, Thomas Engel-Phillip Reid, Keith Laidler etc. These are the books for different topics such as Chemical Thermodynamics, Chemical Kinetics etc.

These were some of the books which you can refer to but these are not necessary as you can have your own reference books based on difficulty level of some of these books.

Hope this helps.

i have got 60 th rank in jam exam for appiled statistics.will i be able to get a seat in IIT kanpur. my category is general.

Shivansh Trigunait 18th Feb, 2020

Dear aspirant,

The cutoff in the final round for Statistics at IIT Kanpur in 2019 (General category) was 57.

As you would know, this only gives an estimated idea as to what the closing Rank could be in the successive years. The actual closing Rank would depend on the difficulty of the exam and appeared candidates.

Based on these stats, I would say that you may have a chance to get a seat in IIT Kanpur. However, it can only be said for sure by appearing in the counseling.

All the very best.

what are the some topics of chemistry which we can easily study at last moment and score good marks in IIT jam 2020?

Ayush Mishra 8th Jan, 2020

Hello Shaifali!

Since there is not much time left for IIT JAM exam, your main focus should be on revising the important concepts and also reviewing the previous year question papers. Having said that, IIT JAM papers have proved to be quite unpredictable in some cases. However these topics have been concentrated a lot and should be taken in consideration by any aspirant:-

• Reaction Intermediates

• Solid State

• Gas Theory

• Chemical Equilibrium

• Phase Equilibrium and concept of Phases

• Chemical Kinetics

• Stereochemistry

• Transition Metals

• Bioinorganic Chemistry

• Chemical bonding and different theories

• Shapes of Compounds

• Analytical Chemistry and methods of analysis

• Heterocyclic and aromatic chemistry

If you would have studied these topics earlier, then revising them and analysing the previous year papers would be beneficial for your final preparation.
