What are the good books for IIT- JAM (Biological Sciences) preparation?

S. Saha Student Expert 2nd Jan, 2020
Choosing best books for preparation is one of the most important steps. Don't forget the NCERTs of +2 levels. Beside this, you can study Life Science- Fundamental and practice 1 and 2 by Pranav Kumar and Usha Mina, Principles of Genetics by Gardner, Simmons, Snustad, Cell and Molecular Biology by Karp, Molecular Biology of the Cell by Bruce Alberts.

Im a student of Chemistry.3rd year.Category OBC.How much score and rank is required to qualify IIT jam.How much required to get through IIT Bombay and IIT Hyderabad.

Ayush Mishra 30th Jan, 2020

Hello aspirant!

IIT JAM cutoff tells about the minimum marks required to qualify the examination but doesn't guarantee admission in any particular institute. The cutoff depends on many factors like difficulty level of question paper, number of applicants, etc. Now, previous few years cutoff trends for your category ie OBC-NCL are as follows:-

Year          2017        2018          2019

Cutoff       21.02       25.61        18.28

Now, the cutoff varies every year due to changes in number of applicants and difficulty level of paper so it is very difficult to predict the marks or rank required to qualify IITJAM, however, these previous year trends may help us in getting some knowledge about cutoffs. So, a score of 25+ could be good enough to clear the cutoff.

Now, referring to your query about IIT BOMBAY and IIT HYDERABAD. Firstly, IITB, the previous year opening and closing ranks for OBCNCL category is as follows:-

ROUND 1:- 104

ROUND 2:- 104

ROUND 3:- 111

It is very difficult to predict the marks required to get these ranks, however, using marks vs rank considerations , a score of 50+ in Chemistry would give a rank in between 0-100, so you should aim for score close to 50 for IIT BOMBAY for your category.

Now, for IIT HYDERABAD, the previous year opening and closing ranks for OBC NCL are as follows:-

ROUND 1:- 513

ROUND 2:- 513

ROUND 3:- 627

Similarly, predicting the marks required for this rank is very tough but using marks vs rank considerations, a score between 35-40 could give you a rank close to 500.

Hope this helps you.

for how many years jam physics score card is valid after getting qualified?

Avishek Dutta 18th Dec, 2019
Unlike GATE or NET or GRE, JAM is an exam very much like JEE.
IITs and IISc together conduct this exam every year on February on several subjects.
After declaration of the result you would be asked for online registration for further councelling and afterwards you would get seat confirmation according to your rank and the choice of your institution.
But you can not use this same rank next year.
You have to appear again like JEE.

I am a bca student Can i join in msc statastics in iit bombay after writing IIT JAM am i eligible ? Or should i take ms maths from nit thirchy ? Or i should go for isi ?

Aditi amrendra Student Expert 26th Jan, 2020
Hello,

For getting admission in IIT Bombay through IIT JAM in M.Sc. Applied Statistics and Informatics one should have studied Mathematics or Statistics for at least two years/ four semesters in Bachelor's Degree at recognised university.

In order to be eligible for ISI exam one should have cleared BE/BTech or any other equivalent degree such as AMIE or, GRAD-IETE or, DOEACC B Level.

Since, you have done BCA, you are not eligible to appear in these exams.

I hope this helps.
