In order to take admission in NITs and IITs your overall percentage should be 75% marks in your boards exam.
If you are scoring less then 75% marks in one subject and your overall marks are more then 75% you don't have to give improvement exam.

1. Get distance learning program material from Allen,Bansal,or Vibrant institute from Kota.
2.watch classes of mechanics from Walter lewin for physics.
3.clear your concepts and doubts and practice more and more questions.
it's vary year to year. depends on cutoff marks. but you should cross cutoff mark.
According, to 2017 data you should score more then 200 marks in JEE Main to get Mechanical or EEE branch in top NITs under general category other state quota.

While there is no way to directly predict the marks correctly as it may change from year to year, still if you score between 180-200 you are well placed to crack the top 5,000.
