please guide me regarding this. I want to do BSc biomedical science or BSc microbiology course after 12th but my PCB aggregate percentage in class 12th is 85.3 %. with this percentage I think I cant get admission in Delhi University. what should I do now

prerna vats 22nd Aug, 2020

Hello dear  student!!

First  of all don't  panic  for this.

With 85.3 % marks, it is very difficult for you to get admission  in the top college of Delhi University offering microbiology and biomedical sciences,  specially  when you belongs to General category. But there can be chances that in the last 7th- 8th merit lists, you  might get admission  in some non famous colleges of Delhi University. So just visit the site regulary and get up to dated with the merit lists for admission.  Meanwhile, what you  can do is just get entolled in some other(relatable) course to secure your seat specially  if you're  getting it in North campus's colleges such as Zoology  , botany, life sciences, etc. As you  can't  afford private University  and at the same time you  just can't  waste your whole year, so it's better to secure a seat in other  courses for a safe side. But if you are only interested  in microbiology and biomedical  sciences,  then you can go for some other governement universities  of states such as Kurukshetra  university  (Haryana), Punjab University (Chandigarh) , etc.

Hope this will help you!

What course better qualifies me to become a genetic counsellor MSc in biomedical genetics or Msc in human genetics and molecular biology?

Disha Arora 9th Jul, 2020

Hi

As per your question Genetic counseling may be a rewarding career, as evidenced by the explosive

growth in genetic counselors; since 2006, the amount of genetic counselors has grown by 85 percent.

But there's still a requirement for more genetic counselors.

Genetic counseling provides the challenge of staying current within the ever-evolving world of genetics

and therefore the ability to attach with and empower patients, supporting them through an often-

difficult and confusing process.

In addition to meeting and talking with patients, genetic counselors spend their time gathering more

information, communicating with laboratories regarding what tests are offered and what's required to

get a test, advocating for patients with their insurance companies to assist ensure their tests are

covered, and notifying patients of test results. Many genetic counselors also do research, which helps

advance patient care.

For additional information about becoming a genetic counselor for your community, download the

NSGC brochure in English or Spanish (translated by Jenny Morgan and Liliana Navarrete from the

University of Alabama Birmingham).

Genetic Counseling Training Programs

Genetic counselors typically receive a baccalaureate in biology, science or a related field, then continue

to receive specialized training. Master's degrees in guidance are offered by programs accredited by the

Accreditation Council for guidance (ACGC).

These specialized programs are currently offered at approximately 40 schools within the us and Canada.

Hope helpful.

Hello Aspirant!

Well, both are good courses, with good placements, good academics and learning potential. The only factor that should influence your decision is your interest and your priorities, desires in life.

So, If you tell me what sort of goals or what kind of life do you want for yourself, it would be much easier.

scope of biomedical science or forensic science is more in India??

Vineeth Wilson 14th Aug, 2020

Hai Aksh,

Numerous opportunities exist for students pursuing a course in biomedical sciences in India. It is a vast, happening subject with great opportunities for laboratory work, management, research, education, and consultancy . Once you become qualified in the subject, you can work in the private sector or in the various national healthcare laboratories. Those who don't find themselves suitable for standard hospital careers may opt for health protection agencies , or work in forensic science departments and help catch a suspect perhaps! Attach yourself to international healthcare projects, go for voluntary work, get involved with product manufacturers, pharmaceutical industries, or veterinary services…your choices are immense.
