Which IIT or NIT contain Marine Engineering Course?

Vidhita Sachdeva 11th Apr, 2019
Hello!

IIT and NIT colleges offering Marine Engineering courses (UG) are-

  • IIT Madras - B.Tech. Naval Achitecture and Ocean Engineering
  • IIT Kharagpur -  B.Tech. Naval Achitecture and Ocean Engineering

There is no NIT found for Marine Engineering courses.

There are different ways to join Navy -

1. NDA Exam : 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as subjects. Male candidates from 16.5 to 19 years can appear in this exam. Joint training (Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy and Air Force Academy) for 3 years is carried out here and candidates are sent for one year pre commencing training to their chosen academy.

2. (10+2) B.Tech. Cadet Entry : Navy announces 10+2 entry for boys who have passed with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics and secured 70% as aggregate can apply for this entry. This is a technical entry and SSB calls are given to eligibile candidates.

3. CDSE Entry : It is an exam conducted by UPSE, twice every year. B.Sc. with Physics or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering passed candidates are eligible to appear.

4. University Entry Scheme : Navy sends its invitation and goes for campus recruitment where candidates are selected on the basis of SSB Inteview. Engineering final and pre final students with 60% aggregate in all papers with physics and maths at 10+2, can apply.

5. Graduate Direct Entries : Navy keeps publishing advertisements for the recruitments posts and the mode of entry is direct, based on graduation cut - off. Engineering final and pre final students with 60% aggregate in all papers with physics and maths at 10+2, can apply.

No Colleges can directly place you in Naval Army. You have to yourself apply through these modes for joining Navy.

Btech in marine engineering or BSc notical science is better

Pulkit 23rd Feb, 2019

Hello Amal,

See it totally depends upon your choice. If you have interest for big machineries and pumps and all then you should go for Marine Engineering and if you have interest in Navigation and Communication then go for Nautical Science.

With Marine Engineering you can go to the technical side of the shipping industry with Chief Engineer as the highest rank on board the ship and with Nautical Science you can go to the Deck side on ship which has Captain as the highest rank. After that if you want to continue in this you can continue or you can switch to the corporate office of the Shipping Company.

So, it totally depends upon your interest.

If you have any query do reach out for that , will be happy to help you.

All the best!!

Hritik Singh 23rd Feb, 2019

Dear Keshwanand, Yes you can persue M.tech in Marine Engineering From "MERI" Kolkata even after you persued your B.tech from Mechanical Engineering. Here you can find that in this college which is affiliated by "IMU" (Indian Maritime University) which conduct their own exam for UG and PG courses i.e. IMU-CET which start their application process in month of april and exam is mostly conducted by the University in the month of June. so you have to appear in their own exam to secure a seat.

Hope you find it relevant.

scope of job in marine engineering

Unnam sreekanth 18th Feb, 2019

Hello aspirant

I can help you with better information.

After completion of marine engineering opportunities are immense in private, educational, corporate and governmental sectors. You can work either onshore or offshore. The latter is quite demanding as you have to stay away from the land for months on end. However, if a government job is what you want, Marine engineering can land you up in the Naval services. Apart from the lucrative salary and perks, it is a matter of pride and joy to serve the country in the waters. Aspirants can also get opportunities in marine metals and corrosion, renewable energy, remote sensing, offshore oil recovery, underwater vehicles and marine transportation. Starting off as a Fifth (junior) engineer, the promotions depends on the efficiency shown.

Pay scale

The remuneration increases with annual promotions. However, a trainee engineer can expect around 30,000 to 40,000 per month. After gaining knowledge about the field, the salary amount is extremely lucrative. Offshore engineers even get the status of an NRI.

Hope above information is helpful to you
