You have not mentioned which institute you want to take admission into. If you want to take admission to IIT Delhi, say for example, you need:

• To have a B.Tech degree
• Must have qualified GATE or be an IIT Graduate with 8.5 CGPA in the qualifying degree

You can give Gate exam in any specialization but this is up to the institute which specialization they allow to be changed as all colleges have their own criteria so please tell which one you are asking about?
