see in mechanical engineering and chemical engineering, engineering  mathematics and general aptitude is common to both of the syllabus, some of the same topics is fluid mechanics and heat transfer. I have given below the link to both the syllabus, you may check for clarity.

To get a seat in NIT in open category with a score of 448 in Mechanical Engineering is not so easy and it is difficult as in an NIT the minimum score required to get a seat is 500.
