To get admission in B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) at Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal through MUOET, a score of 120+ or a rank upto 7,000 is good enough, based on past year trends.

Gate score for iit's - 

Iit's cutoff for gate is the minimum score required for admission into mtech programmes across various iit's. Candidates who scored equal marks or more than cutoff of marks of gate iit's will be considered for admission into mtech programmes.

Hey, 

Rank corresponding to your percentile would be above 87, 448. Getting NIT Durgapur would not br possible for you. As you belong to OC, it is quite difficult for you to land up in any of the NITs

You can get good IITs and NITs which has good placement records. They are 

IITs-madras,roorke,munbai,kanpur,guwhati,dhanbad, hyderabad,delhi,banaras(bhu)

NITs-

Jaipur, calicut, bhopal, patna,surat, jamshedpur, silchar, agartalla, trichy, hamirpur, nagpur, durgapur 

And DTU Delhi, Coepune.

These were the college which may call you for further round on basis of your gate

Sir, i am sorry to say but your son can't get any IIt's or Top NIT's. He can get various other NIT's like Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra or the North east NIT's.

Other than NIT's he can try various state Universities like Osmania, JNUTH and even Private Universities.
