Sir, i am sorry to say but your son can't get any IIt's or Top NIT's. He can get various other NIT's like Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra or the North east NIT's.
Other than NIT's he can try various state Universities like Osmania, JNUTH and even Private Universities.

Your score is good.As per the previous years cutoffs you have little chance of getting Applied Mechanics in old IITS as their cutoffs are high around 750.You can also apply for medium ranked IITs such as IIT Patna, IIT Delhi, IIT Bhubaneshwar,etc.So,be hopefull that you will get it
