Mechatronics Engineering is the branch of science which includes the study of electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, telecommunications, system engineering and control engineering. 
There is decent scope in research centres, health care centres, etc. Also, the launch of different space shuttles has increased the scope for mechatronics graduates.

I would suggest you to prefer the recommended books by the university as per the university syllabus for Mechatronics Engineering.

Yes you can get the lateral entry for Btech Mechatronics. All the engineering colleges will accept the lateral entry for the diploma students. selection will be based on the LEET enterance exam.
