as per your qualification you can be hired as a head cook, however you need to apply for different companies as far as you meet the eligibility criteria. you may also apply to different cruise company, salaries are same as a 5 star hotel, after you gain 2-3 years experience by hard working , you may expect salary more than of five star hotels chief.

Merchant navy sponsorship exam held in two batches one is February batch and other is October batch there is not latest date announced officially so from the previous year record we can say the exam for the February batch conduct in October/ November while for the October batch it is in April/May.

Continuous Discharge Certificate or CDC is a seafarer's identity document like passport issued by his country. Every seafarer must carry this document while on board, which is also an official and legal record of his sea experience. Without a CDC, a person is not eligible to work onships. CDC is mandatory to work on ships. It is also compulsory for Merchant navy job.

Merchant navy sponsorship test is divided into two batches one is February batch and other is October batch the exam for the February batch basically held in October/November every year while for the October batch the exam held in April/may, so accordingly you can see ,for which batch you are expecting the exam date.

If you wish to enter the navigational and engineering fields of merchant navy then you have to complete a bachelor's degree in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering. Direct entry to merchant navy is also possible for students who have completed their 12th with PCM are eligible to join as Deck Cadets.

Hello Aspirant,

After completion of B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering course, if you wish to join Merchant Navy then you can do a separate course called Graduate Marine Engineering of which is of 1 year duration and then you will be eligible to become become a Marine engineer.

To join Merchant Navy after completing engineering you must have B.Tech in any of the following specializations:

  • Marine Engineering
  • Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Harbour & Ocean Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical & Electronics Engineering

After completing engineering, you can work as a Cadet Engineer, Junior Engineer, Third Engineer, Second Engineer, and Chief Engineer depending upon the vacancies available.

Engineers are sent on the pre-sea training for a year before they are sent on board. Then they are placed on the ship for a training period of approximately 6 months. After their training period, they appear the competency examination and work as the fourth engineer on ships. For moving up the ladder, they are expected to complete sea time and then they write competency exams.

Hi,
merchant Navy Marine engineering course is a good cause if you are interested in the specific field for the course you need some special pre-requirements that :
Class 12th with physics, chemistry and maths
Candidates have to be unmarried
Normal vision (or glasses with 2.5 minus or plus can be accepted)
Admission is through entrance test after which you have to give a screening test followed by a Main written test.
after you clear the entrance test you have to undergo a medical and interview test as well.
You also have to complete the ship training course.

After class 12, you can study the following merchant navy courses:
B.E. Petroleum Engineering
Electro Technical Officer Course
B.Sc. Marine Catering
Mechanical Engineering
Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering
B.Sc. Nautical Science
B.E. Electrical & Electronics Engineering
B.E. Civil Engineering

After class 12 you can appear for the Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test (IMU CET) or the All India Merchant Navy Entrance Exam, other exams  gateways for Marine Engineering are MERI Entrance Exam,JEE and TIMSAT.

Hello Anuj,

You can join Merchant Navy after completing Mechanical Engineering. For this you have to do a GME( Graduate Marine Engineer) course for an year and then get placed in the shipping company as a Trainee Marine Engineer.

The requirements that are to be fulfilled are mentioned below. Have a look at them:

1. You should have finished minimum qualification 10th (Any Stream) or 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths for joining Merchant Navy. The admission in the Merchant Navy is done through Entrance exam which includes screening test and written test.

2. Age limit 17 ½ - 27 Years.

3. Minimum height requirement is 5 Feet

4. Weight requirement as per WHO (World Health Organisation).

5. One should have normal vision. But glasses up to or minus 2.5 do not allow people to join Merchant Navy.

6. Fully medically fit, No Color Blindness, Eye Vision should be 6/6 no Glasses Allowed. Medical requirements shall be as per the existing standards of D.G Shipping INDIA.
