i have got only 71 prcnt total in my 12th board exams and i have PCM what can i do with this unpleasant marks plzz suggest me

Anonymous 1st Jun, 2018

Hii Adarsh You can join the merchant navy in two ways. If you do not want to study any further then there is deck cadet job for you to apply. The salary won't be great but good enough. Don't expect 6 digit figure for salary. If you can study further it would be nice. The officer level jobs are well paid and comes with additional perks. I will definitely recommend you to continue with your studies as pursue either B.Sc in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering course. Eligibility 1. You should have completed 12th with PCM. 2. Only umarried candidates are eligible. 3. The age limit is 20 years. 4. SC and ST can apply till 25 years. 5. You will have to pass a medical test. 6. Physical requirements will have to be met such as at least 5 feet height, 6/6 vision etc. You can complete the Marine Engineering or B.Sc in Nautical Science and then apply for some officer level jobs in marine engineering. Direct Entry As I mentioned earlier, after completing 12th you can apply for the deck cadet job. If a company selects you then it will arrange a 3 months long pre-sea training for you. Candidates who have completed B.Tech in Electrical/Mechanical/Technology are also eligible for several officer level jobs in Merchant Navy. However such candidates will have to undergo through a 9 months log pre-sea course in Marine Engineering from MERI. All the best.

Diploma holders shall  have to undergo a 1 year pre-sea course in any dg approved institutes. They have to complete a minimum sailing of 18 months on a vessel above 500GRT which is mandatory and then approach for their written and oral exams to become Nautical Officer.

However, On Contrary, Bsc students shalll undergo 3 years in any of the DG approved institute and have to complete a minimum of 12 months sailing on a vessel above 500GRT. Only Then they will give the written and oral exams for second mates.

Adding on after the completion of the 3 year degree sfudents shall get a convocation certificate so they can pursue any other course if they wish so.

Hence, Bsc Nautical Scienec is best option in this case.
