Well, I must say that there no field in which females are not performing good and same is for metallurgy department. It is more than red hot iron or heat furnaces. If you perform good and have a good interest in subject then you might be the ideal for other females. Many companies like DRDO, Taiwan Semiconductors, SAIL, TATA Motors, TATA Steel, Jindal Steel, NALCO, IOCL, 3M etc hire the candidates from metallurgy department. Also, you can go for non core companies such as bank of America, Schlumberger, maruti Suzuki etc.

You didn't mention your category. But if you are from general category, then yes there are chances for getting a seat in NIT Surathkal in Metallurgical engineering.

Metallurgy is quite good in NITK. Academics are good.
Facilities, Faculties,Campus are also good.
Placement depends on your performance because major companies recruit only selected workforce
You have to apply off campus only for major government companies which are into metallurgy
Minimum placement is 6 lakhs per annum and maximum being 34 lakhs. Last year around 87% of students got placed.

Most Probably , you would get the seat in 7th round or special rounds . This prediction has been made according to last year cutoffs , as last year the cutoffs were about 24k , hence you have good chances to get the seat .
