Generally almost all Degree college and hostels, UG and PG colleges and hostels will allow mobile phones but not to be used during class hours.
If students use mobile phone during class hours they may take some actions on studies.

Basically in vivekananda's college, chennai hostel use of mobile phone is prohibites. there is seperately a locker in which mobile phones are placed but students are not permitted to use mobile phones as far as i know. However there are STD AND ISD ,PCO facilities .for exact information you can check the colleges website.

For any exam center there must be some place near to security guard where we need to put our belongings like bag,purse, etc. So you can put your phone in bag and put it there. If you dont have bag then you can tell them, they will assist you and cooperate you.

But use laptop than phone to avoid some problems.And be careful with the online procedure. Make yourself comfortable.

I would like to tell you that in Saveetha Engineering college, students are prohibited from using mobile phones in the class room however students can use their mobile phones on the college premises such as canteen, recreation etc.
