Yes,dear its true there is no compartment exam for improvement exam that means the improvement exam can be given only once.

However,failing in improvement exam doesn't affect your score If you have score better marks previously that will stay.

As you have mentioned above that you have scored 472 in the GATE examination, in ECE branch, there is a slightly fair possibility that you would call from NIT's.

I would recommend to make a list of NIT's you want to apply to and email them your score.
