so as a chemical engineering student i can help you herefirst thing is that ict is the best college for chemical engineering and nit trichy is also a great college in comparision to other colleges but ict is totally based on research and you get a degree and you can master a particular topic by doing research under great professor.it is like BARC.

• it is totally govt funded for each research

if you get ict ,go for it without any other thoughts and if you get nit trichy it is also great

As you have secured  1949 rank.in the jee main paper 2 is very good .so as per your query you have very low chances to get in the nit Trichy for the b.arch course 

As the last rank cut off is of around 1550 so it will be difficult you to get seat in the nit Trichy

Well, here is something that you can do to get a better sense of career prospects in those areas after M.Tech from IITs/NITs

First search for VLSI on LinkedIn dot com (I am not able to post the url as you will be asked to login first) and add filter for school names, mentioning several IITs and NITs. 

Now check-out the profile of people who are getting listed and see if they have done M.Tech and which company they are working in or have worked in past for VLSI. I got some results from 1st page itself:

1) NIT Karnataka, Presently working in Open Silicon, Inc.

2) IIT Kanpur, Atmel Corporation

3) IIT Delhi, CVC Ltd

4) IIT Madras, Wipro

5) IIt Kanpur, Wipro

With this limited research, I can say two things:

1) There are good career opportunities for VLSI 

2) There is good career progression for people who did M.Tech from VLSI from IITs / NITs - from the search result I found people moving to senior designations quickly. 

I also know the companies who have hired M.Tech in VLSI from NITs and IITs. Now the next question is, which of these companies visited IITs in last 2-3 years - that should be available on the websites of the colleges. I can also connect with some of the people I found and simply ask them.

First of all Congratulating you on your nice performance that you deserve such a nice college. Now I would like to tell you that computer science engineering is almost first choice of almost 80 percent student because of its placement and scope in private sector. And then getting NIT trichy is something that adds feather. So if you are interested in computer science engineering then I would suggest you to prefer NIT over iit where you are getting some other branch.

The rank calculation depends on the difficulty of the paper and which slot you have given the paper .

If you want to get nit trichy ece department then according to me the safe score will be around 140-160 so that the seat can be fixed otherwise you may have to go to special rounds .

This time the ranks are not so good on very good marks unlike the previous years so this range will do it for u according to me.

As you have said that you are not so much worry about which branch will you get in nit Trichy. With 95.04 percentile in OBC category. If you said rank then it was easier to say which branch you would get . 

Well if I see previous year rankings then it maximum upto 9000 in home state quota and upto 6000 in other state quota.

So if you have under this rank then you are eligible for it .

See Anurag you have got 192 marks in JEE mains which means you will have around 10k rank. And you belong to ews category so obviously your rank will get low. 

Now as ews was not till last year. It was introduced this year so there is no such previous year records so that it could be said how much rank was needed for ECE in nit Trichy. 

But it might be possible that you will get.

See Prakash it's really hard to predict score from rank as there are several factors considered in determining the rank. 

Considering previous year rankings then for home state in ECE department it closed around 6700 in 7th round and for other state around 2300 both for general category . So if you have ranks below above mentioned rank then you are eligible.
