Questions(MCQs) in VIT exams are generally very conceptual but easy.
From my personal experience, I would say, though all the topics will be from NCERT, but it's safe to read some more books as well, specially the biotechnology chapters on your 12 th biology text book.

It's all depends upon you but as my experience say you need other stuffs and material for practice because vit exam consist of all the concepts and a speedy test which can be done if you are well prepared and practice all the concepts thoroughly.
