Petrochemical Engineering
Dear Aspirant,
I understand your concern and I am here to help you regarding your query and i appreciate your interest towards the least preferred Courses like Petroleum and petrochemical engineering.
Generally, there is a major difference between these two courses which is petroleum engineering jobs includes extraction of petroleum and petrochemical is a branch of chemical engineering which deals with downstream processes. Now, all depends on your career aspirations as it is tough to suggest you thr best one because, these two branches are really good and should be pursued with passion. You can also go for IT and product based jobs even after these degree. If you are interested in downstream, go for petrochemical Engineering as it helps you to take many routes such as petrochemical jobs, chemical engineering jobs and IT jobs as well. You will be paid high in upstream jobs and is a bit risky whereas downstream jobs had moderate salaries and stress free environment.

Hello Dhwatha,
Assuming you have finished with the 3 year Diploma program, I can tell you that there are two paths you can choose. You can take up a job as a Field Operator, Petroleum Geologist, or even an Assistant Manager if Well Testing. Your average starting salary will be 3 to 6 LPA.
The second path is that you take up a degree in Petrochemical Engineering. Following are the 10 best colleges for it:
1. IIT Mumbai
2. Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad
3. University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun
4. Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy, Visakhapatnam
5. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Uttar Pradesh
6. Pandit Deendayal Petroleum Universit, Gandhinagar
7. Maharashtra Institute of Technolog, Pune
8. MS Engineering College, Bengaluru
9. GH Patel College of Engineering, Gujarat
10. LD College of Engineering, Ahmedabad
Hii Praveen,
I personally don't recommend to pursue Petroleum engineering as your Bachelor's degree. Always pursue your bachelor's degree in core sector, so that you can have strong back up.
It is better to chose such courses at Master's level. If you pursue your degree in mechanical, chemical, civil or any other core branch, the basic fundamentals will remain same. As petroleum engineering is applied branch, fundamentals from your bachelor will be useful. Anyone can enter in Petroleum engineering but vice versa may not be possible.
ALL THE BEST!!
