Both these universities are good.The nirf ranking of annamalai university is 12.This college was established in 1929.infrastructure and academics of this college is good.coming to placement structure, nearly 80%  of the students got placed in different companies.Faculty of this college is good and very helpful to the students.

As far as M.Sc. Chemistry is concerned, apart from IITs, most Public Universities have similar courses and curriculum, however I still believe Hyderabad University will be a better choice than Pondicherry University. Hyderabad University is one of the oldest and best universities in South India next to Anna University, IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore and Osmania University. Being located near Industrial Hubs and other Research Labs and Institutions in Hyderabad, itself provides huge scope and prospects in training and placements. In PU chemistry department is good and the exams are difficult and competitive you've to work a lot to get degree.The quantum chemistry course is the only good thing about the department which is extremely helpful for students interested in theoretical chemistry.

Pondicherry is a window to French culture, you can google for more information.

How bad or good depends on a course you are going to opt for. Otherwise, if you only talk about PU, I would say it's the best place to study.

Well there is no specific number of students who qualify the exam. Students who perform well and study well for the entrance will end up qualifying exams like jrf, net or gate. These exams are premier exams and they require rigorous practice and hard work on the students part to qualify.
