Rishu Gupta 29th Jul, 2020

Hi C Saraswathi,

It seems you are talking about my gate 2019 gate score, As per your score and previous year cutoff, the colleges you get  in third or fourth round are:-

National Institute of Technology Hamirpur-- Transportation Systems Engineerin

National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur-- Geotechnical Engineering

National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra--  Environmental Engineering

National Institute of Technology Agartala --Transportation Engineering

National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli --Transportation Engineering & Management

You will not get any PSUs with this score. For PSUs your gate score will be more than 750 or under 500 rank.

Should a Btech graduate join psu or go for MBA knowing the fact that his age is 24?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 18th Jun, 2020
Lets say you complete your MBA by 26, you are still not late for opportunities. PSUs after B.Tech might be anyone's dream and there is no doubt about it. But you should always have a Plan B just in case Plan A doesn't pan out. If you are in your Final year of Graduation, appear for CAT this year. And at the same time also apply or PSU's whenever there is an opening that has been released. By the time the admission process starts for MBA, you will have an idea of how is the job in PSUs turning out to be. If things are in your favour, you can take up the job in PSU. But if they dont, then you can join MBA. That way you dont lose out on an Academic year. If you land a job and  join any PSU right after B.Tech, you can still take an educational break and pursue your MBA.

Rahul 21st Jul, 2020
ONLY AAI, HAL and DRDO  are offering the job for aerospace engineering graduate as either aerospace engineer or scientists posts . You can apply for the mentioned post based on your GATE score (aerospace engineering) . If we look at the previous year cutoff what  we see is the rank you need ( for DRDO specially)  is in 20 to 30  and you can find the cutoff rank for the AAI and HAL on @Google or you can ask here on careers360  qna page .

hello, i am a working professional in engineering firm having experience of 7 yrs. what are my chances to get recruited in one of the PSU s based on my experience and Gate score jointly, if I qualify GATE exam now after 9years of graduation? do they hire based on experience and GATE score?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 9th Jul, 2020

hi,

see the psus which generally hires with gate score donot have any work experience criteria for selection, candidates is shortlisted by gate score, calls for gd/pi rounds and based on performance final list is made, now there is age limit which is different for different psus, now age relaxation is available for reserve category applicants, if your age is above 28 , and you belongs to general category less chances to qualify  for psus. also vacancy is not same for every year, however you may check for individual or experienced recruitment in osus website rather then only opting for gate exam.

how i apply for psu in aerospace branch

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 28th May, 2020

hi,

see to get job in psu you need to appear in gate exam from aerospace engineering branch, however every year lots of vacancy comes, but the vacancy for aerospace engineering is less compare to civil, mechanical, electrical engineering stream. now gate exam has two benefits, by this score you may apply for m,tech courses in reputed iits or nits or other state or centralized institute, also you may apply for psus if any vacancy comes.

I have a GATE-2020 score of 606 (GATE Rank: 5718). Do I have a shot at any of the PSU jobs?

Shivang Dubey 17th May, 2020

Hey Malhar,

Considering previous years GATE rank to PSU's recruitment record, sorry but it is tough for you to get into any PSU's (assuming you belong to General category). Most of the PSU's close recruitment for all branches at maximum GATE AIR 1000. You may get admission into any post graduation program but getting a PSU is hard.

Better luck next time.

what is the salary difference in psu and completing mtech from iits in cse branch

Shivang Dubey 14th May, 2020

Hey Dhanush,

Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) takes applicants through GATE scores and admission in IIT's and IISc M.Tech programs is also done through GATE. But the salary factor depends upon what you pursue after M.Tech, the type of placement you receive or any Government job you apply for. In case of PSU's some of the listed salaries are:

  • Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL): 11,00,000/- CTC
  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL): 10,50,000/- CTC
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL): 9,50,000/- CTC

Note: These are an approximation and not the accurate data.

Whereas if we consider that one pursues M.Tech from one of the prestigious institution and gets placed on Campus Placement(CSE) then the salary record goes as:

  • IIT Bombay: 18,50,000/- CTC average package
  • IIT Delhi: ~15,00,000/- CTC average package

You see most of the students get placed in MNC's and private sectors which differ from PSU.

Also one could join a PSU after completing M.Tech as well, depends on what the student wish to so.

can I take psu jobs after completing my mtech from iits in cse branch

Shivang Dubey 14th May, 2020

Yes, one can definitely join PSU's after M.Tech, but one must keep in mind some factors before opting for PSU's after M.Tech:

  1. One should be in age limit provided by the GATE and PSU's organisation, exceeding that won't give you any opportunity
  2. If you wish join PSU, then you are given chance to do that just after your under-graduation through scoring well in GATE
  3. There are very less opportunities in the Computer Science-Information technology field if considering for PSU's jobs.
  4. After M.Tech from IIT's there are various new opportunities gates opened for you, with higher pay scale and work related to your field.
  5. To join PSU after M.Tech you will have to appear for GATE and prepare for that

Thank you

can I take that psu job after completing my mtech which I have got during the announcement of gate results before joining in mtech for cse branch

Anantika Kushwaha 14th May, 2020
Hello Aspirant,

No you can't do that. GATE scores are valid for 3 years but they are only for M.Tech admission. For PSUs recruitment you'll have to give the GATE exam again after completing your MTech.
