There is no defence/army quota in JEE exam for getting a seat in either NIT or IIT. You have to study well, then score good for having a seat in any NIT or IIT. For knowing about the possibility of getting a seat in NIT or IIT, just go through the previous cutoff trend, the institute's opening and closing rank and accordingly do your preparation. Hope this will help you.

If you do not wish to claim any reservation and apply as a UR student only, then you don’t need to do anything. Every student by default is considered in UR and can contest for those seats In any college of the country. You should just have the marks appropriate as per the cutoffs for that particular college.
