Hi. My son got admission in SASTRA university, Thanjavur (Mechanical engineering) and also has applied for Amrita vishwa Vidyapeetam. So, which is best for mechanical engineering; SASTRA or Amrita? KIndly help

Shiva saketh 15th Sep, 2020

Hey there!

For you to get an idea on both the universities let me give you some details on both the universities.

In sastra university the placements are decent. The average package over there is around 9.5LPA  and the highest package is about 28.5LPA . The highest packages and the top companies will come to the college only for the main branches like cse and ece who are more suitable for software jobs. There are some top companies which visit the campus for mechanical branch too. Some of the big companies are AMAZON CISCO TCS TIGER analysis etc. https://www.careers360.com/university/shanmugha-arts-science-technology-research-and-academy-thanjavur

In amrita vishwa vidyapeetham , coimbatore , this campus is mainly known for mechanical engineering. amrita coimbatore, around 30 companies arrive for campus selection of which around 10 are core. The amrita university placements are a lot betetr than sastra . The highest package at amrita is around 43LPA  and the average package would be around 5.5LPA. https://www.careers360.com/colleges/amrita-school-of-engineering-coimbatore

But for choosing colleges you have to consider many other things rather than just placements. I would suggest you to join amrita university as it is more recognised and a deemed college sastra isn't a proper deemed college. But choose on the basis of your comfort. At last it's the student who has to grow.

Hope this helps!

thank you, feel free to ask questions any time

can i get into sastra university considaring my rank according to merit list 6022 and my oc category for mechanical engineering, hometown is Hyderabad ,can i get seat in round 6 allotment please reply soon.

Nikhitha Sai 11th Sep, 2020

Hello student. 6022 rank is a bit higher one.  And since there is not state quota reservation, it is a bit difficult to get the seat in mechanical engineering.

Mechanical engineering in sastra is a bit demanding branch. So, the cloasing rank will be a bit lesser. So The chances are lesser for you to get through in round 6. I suggest you to apply for other colleges.

I will get 173/300 marks in JEE Mains September 2020. But I have already joined SASTRA UNIVERSITY by paying Rs.92,000. Now I want to join NITs. So, I want to withdraw my money. Can it be refunded Now? If so how many days it will take?

Anurag Khanna 7th Sep, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

See if you have taken admission in SASTRA university but you are not comfortable with it so you can withdraw your admission from there and your fee will be refunded as per the government's decision which states that if any student is not comfortable with his/her college he/she can withdraw the admission and fee will be refunded but there might be some deduction of admission charges and other processing charges from the fee you have paid. Time cannot be predicted because it depends upon the formalities of college which varies from college to college.

Now, according to the marks you have mentioned in the question your percentile would lies in the range of 99.31-99.51 and your rank is supposed to be in the range of 4377-6027. On the basis of this rank you can get very good NITs.

You can use JEE-Main College Predictor to predict the most convenient college according to your percentile :-

I hope this information helps you.

Good Luck!!

I want to take B.Tech admission

Anurag Khanna 6th Sep, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

See if you want to take admission in B.Tech course offered by SASTRA, Thanjavur then you have to go through any of the following streams :-

  • Admission based on JEE-Main and 10+2 score for 70% of the seats :-

You can take admission through your JEE-Main score and 10+2 score, a normalization process will be done by the authorities in which 25% weightage of JEE-Main score and 75% weightage of 10+2 will be considered. According to this process seats would be alloted. Note that merit list will be prepared according to the above process and through this admission will be taken.

  • Admission based on only 10+2 score for 30% of the seats :-

Through this stream you can apply for B.Tech direct on the basis of your 10+2 marks and merit list will be prepared on the basis of 10+2 scores only. And then admissions will be taken by considering the merit list.

For an OBC student from Andhra Pradesh, who got 96 percentile in JEE Mains. which college is best for CSE branch among the following (SASTRA University, NITS, IIITS and GFTIS)? please predict and mention clearly which college is the best (specially in packages) and why?

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 5th Sep, 2020

hi,

see before enroll in a course you have to consider some factors to choose a college, also the Institute plays a vital role in career, now comes to the selection of college I would consider NIT suratkhel best among the others Institute, cause nits has excellent Infrastructure, environment, projects guidence which is well maintained rather than others institute in india. even some of the professors who teaches in nits are the authors of many text books which is taken as reference in many Institute. even nits students goes for abroad university for project works. nit suratkhel has excellent placement record for cse as well as others branches of engineering.
