How is the Ma./msc regulatory goverance of tiss and what one should prepare for its gd and pi?
TISS – Tata Institute of Social Sciences – is one of the best institutions in the country for post-graduate studies. The faculty of the institute is praise-worthy and the infrastructure is commendable. The course MSc in Regulation and Governance is a multidisciplinary course. The curriculum includes a vast range of topics such as finance, governance, human resources, environment, sustainability concerns and more. It also covers all the aspects of regulation including the tools and mechanisms used for regulating and monitoring.
It is a two-year (four semester) full-time course. The total credits of the course are 66. There are certain electives available for the students to choose from in the second year.
Along with the internships and regular curriculum, students have a component of independent work. Under this component, students have to write a dissertation. There is also a policy assignment as part of independent work.
The programme has a strong theoretical base. The programme progresses in a well-structured manner. The students are indulged in the practical aspect( internships and social activities), once they have formed a solid theoretical foundation.
This course has gained a lot of popularity over time. There are a lot of roles that the students can join in, such as Management trainee, Programme officers
Many NGOs, Financial firms, Policy-Advocacy firms hire students who have completed this degree. Many of the previous year placements have been in Andhra Pradesh Regulatory Body, ABVP, Deloitte, Prayas NGO. The average package for the course has been around 6-7 lakh.
Passing the GD and PI of TISS is a challenging task. For GD, the major focus should be upon current affairs. Only the headline knowledge of trending topics is not enough, one needs to know factual information to substantiate their points and clear the Group Discussion round.
Personal Interviews are also very tricky. One should be confident and have a positive attitude.
The one requirement to perform well in an interview is to have proper knowledge regarding the subject that you have studied in your undergraduate degree. You might be asked to connect the relevance of the subject to regulation and governance.
One of the ways to prepare for the personal interview in TISS is to gather knowledge about the background and interests of the faculty of your course. You should find the faculty of the course you are interested in and read their profiles. This would give you an idea of their specializations and interest. If they have any published works, then you can read those works. This would equip you with logical arguments and your response rate would also be quick.
Another thing is to be able to connect the trending topics with the degree you are applying for. Such questions are asked to judge the critical thinking of the students. Find connections between the recent news and the subjects you are interested in and have applied for.
Especially for interviews for Regulation and Governance course, one should do research on the major regulatory bodies of the country and their heads and structure. One should also know the loopholes in governance and have creative solutions for the same.
