I passed my class 10th (2022) but I have a two years gap in completing 12th (2027) am I eligible for UGC NET exam?

harsh singh 28th Mar, 2025

Yes, you can still be eligible for the UGC NET exam, as it primarily requires a master’s degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories).

Your two-year gap after Class 10 will not affect your UGC NET eligibility, as the exam considers postgraduate qualifications, not the gap between 10th and 12th.

I have done a BTech in ECE and an MBA in Operations Management. I have qualified UGC-NET in labour laws and HRM and wanted to pursue PhD in OBHRM area in IITs and IIMs. Can I give GATE XH in psychology for the same purpose?

Prachi Kumari 29th Mar, 2025

Hello,

Yes, you can appear for GATE XH (Humanities & Social Sciences) in Psychology if the institute you are applying to accepts GATE XH scores for PhD admissions in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management (OBHRM) .

However, most IITs and IIMs prefer CAT, GMAT, GRE, UGC-NET/JRF or their own entrance tests for PhD admissions in OBHRM. Some IITs might accept GATE scores , but it's best to check the specific admission requirements of the IITs/IIMs where you want to apply.

Hope it helps !

Which exam is better UGC Net or CSIR Net ?? In order to have weightage in resume

kumardurgesh1802 17th Jan, 2025

Hello there,

The choice between UGC NET and CSIR NET largely depends on your academic background and career goals. Here’s a comparison to help you decide:

  1. UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test):

    • Focus: Primarily for candidates in the fields of Humanities , Social Sciences , Commerce , Management , Education , and Language studies.

    • Purpose: It is mainly for eligibility for Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.

    • Weightage: It's more recognized for candidates aiming for teaching positions in Arts, Humanities , and Social Sciences .

    • Paper Structure: Based on general topics like Teaching and Research Aptitude and subject-specific papers.

  2. CSIR NET (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test):

    • Focus: It is specifically designed for candidates in Science-related fields (like Life Sciences , Physical Sciences , Chemical Sciences , Earth Sciences , Engineering Sciences ).

    • Purpose: This exam qualifies you for JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and Lectureship in research institutions and universities .

    • Weightage: It's highly valuable if you are looking to enter research and development sectors, as well as academic positions in science and technology fields.

    • Paper Structure: The exam tests subject-specific knowledge along with research aptitude and knowledge in scientific subjects.

Which One Looks Better on a Resume?
  • If your goal is to work in academics and teaching in arts or commerce , the UGC NET will be more beneficial.

  • If you are pursuing a career in research, development, or science-related fields , then the CSIR NET will add significant weight to your resume, especially if you're looking to work in labs, research institutes , or higher education in the STEM fields .

Both exams are prestigious, but CSIR NET is generally considered more specialized for those aiming for a research career, whereas UGC NET is broader, covering a wider range of disciplines.

I have done my PGDBA from SCDL, which is recognized by UGC. Am I eligible for UGC NET? Thanks

Afreen 26th Dec, 2024

if you have completed your PGDBA from SCDL, which is recognized by UGC, you are eligible to appear for the UGC NET exam as a PGDBA is considered equivalent to a Master's degree in Management, making you eligible to apply for the UGC NET Management paper.

To effectively prepare for a NET Management paper, you should utilize techniques like: hypothesis testing, practicing mock tests, thoroughly understanding business ethics and CSR, managing time effectively, mastering capital budgeting techniques, analyzing organizational structure and design, creating self-study notes, and strategically planning your study approach based on the syllabus and UGC NET MOCK TEST ,previous year papers.

I have filled ugc net as EWS category but qualified as assistant professor buy scoring above general category cutoff. Will I be considered as General or EWS?

kumardurgesh1802 10th Dec, 2024

Hello Animesh,

If you filled out the UGC NET application under the EWS category but qualified for the Assistant Professor position by scoring above the general category cutoff, you will be considered under the General category for further processing.

The category under which you qualify is determined by the cutoff score and the rules set by the examination authority. Even though you applied under EWS, if your score is higher than the general category cutoff, you would fall under the general category. Therefore, your qualification status will be recognized as General, not EWS.

However, it is recommended to double-check with the official UGC NET authorities or refer to their official notification for precise details.
