It actually depends on what stream you want to take,If you want to take CSE ,then there is no chance of getting  in any category.Since the seats get over by 15k-20k rank for cse.

However you will be eligible for ECE,EEE,Civil and mechanical in the 2nd or 3rd

You have the chances for get mechanical branch in chennai as the closing rank is 32,000 .You may not the chances of getting CSE or ECE branches in chennai campus .but you have the chances of getting mech branch .for further refer the link below.

Hey,you will get ECE in chennai branch or even in vellore campus also as based on last year counselling process I am saying.because many specilisation branches are there in vit vellore campus.so chances of getting ECE in chennai is very high.I got 87K rank,I ended up in Vit amaravati campus.All
