Im Engineer Boy in General Category. Im expecting above 97%ile in CAT 2019 and sectional Percentile over 85% in all. Also, my 10th Score is 94.8%, 12th Score is 86.77%, Grad Score is 69.90% with 14 months of work experience. Should I expect a Call from NITIE, IIM B or IIT B ?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 1st Dec, 2019
IIMs shortlist candidates for the interview stage based on their own criteria, which may be independent of each other. The process may include Written Ability Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interviews. Performance in the CAT examination is an important component in the admission process. IIMs may additionally use other factors such as the previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, gender and academic diversity and other similar inputs in shortlisting and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs.

CAT SECTIONAL WEIGHTAGE:
IIM BANGALORE:
QA DLR VARC Overall
General: 80 80 85 90
NC-OBC: 70 70 75 80
SC: 65 65 70 75
ST: 60 60 60 70
PwD: 50 50 50 60

For all the Candidates shortlisted, the 10th and 12th board results are initially adjusted by dividing each such score by 90th percentile score of that board. And then an adjusted score is calculated for the Bachelor's degree for each of the candidates based on the final scores obtained by the candidate are used for the Bachelor's degree and professional degrees. For example,
CAT = 40
10th board = 20
12th board = 10
Bachelors = 20
Gender Diversity = 2
Work Experience = 8
The 40 points for CAT are derived from the performance in each of the three sections as follows:
Verbal & Reading Comprehension - 14 points
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning - 16 points Quantitative Aptitude - 10 points.

With 97 percentile in CAT, you can certainly expect to be shortliated for IIM B.

NITIE: The cut offs depend on the programme that you have selected. Typically, the cut offs range from 85 ton97 percentile depending on the programme that you have selected. Here you may have a chance too.

mam if i have worked in a property dealing firm for 1year so i get work experience of 1 year. i got 4.8 cgpa in 10 std and 69% in 12 std and 90% in graduation from IGNOU university and i belong to general category.. so can i get a call from iims if i secure 95+ in CAT.

iammohdshareef 30th Nov, 2019

Your CAT weightage is considered only upto 40-60% based on the IIM that you are applying for. Each IIM has its own selection criteria. Even the baby IIMs require CAT percentile 40-60% and the rest is considered from your 10th and 12th, Graduation marks and diversity factor. Most IIMs will need atleast 18 months of work experience. Considering all these factors, a call from any IIM will be difficult even with 95 percentile. Because only 60% of your CAT score will be considered for shortlisting your profile for next rounds. In that case, you will losr out on your 10th marks and work experience.

I have given CAT 2019 Slot 1 and my Raw Score id 138 Marks.. My Acedemic Profile is 94.20/90.69/69.20 and I hvae 24 months work experience. Im Male Engineer Candidate in EWS category. Can I get IIM K Call?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 30th Nov, 2019

Paras, the expected cut off for IIM K for EWS is as follows:

QA: 80

VARC:80

DILR:80

Overall: 90

The minimum sectional percentile needs to be 80, your SSC and HSC  percentages need to be 60. With your Academic profile, it is likely that you will be shortlisted for IIM K. We hope you opted for IIM K.

According to the official page, IIM K atleast needs an overall percentile of 90. IIM K has a 3 phase selection process. Once you have been shortlisted based on your CAT, SSC and HSC percentages, you will be called for Personal Interview and Writing Ability Test. A shortlist of candidates in each Category will be created on a computer based index score based on the performance in CAT, HSC asnd academic diversity criterion.

The Aggregate Index Score Computation looks like:

CAT Index Score:  75%

HSC: 20%

Academic Diversity Factor: 5%

IIM K will conduct the PI and WAT in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai and New Delhi. In this process, the candidates will write an essay and a professional resume which is followed by a PI. The essay topic will be just announced at the venue before the WAT. During the PI, the panel will evaluate the academic efforts and disposition, general awareness and social disposition, attitude and personality and articulation and communication of each Candidate.

The Final score will be computed as follows:

CAT score: 40%

PI: 30%

Essay: 20%

Hi Bhayashree,

PAI institute is offering PGFM in management ( 420 seats), Human resource management (60 seats), Banking and financial service (60 seats) and Marketing and sales management (60 seats)
For getting admission you have to get high marks in XAT, MAT and GMAT exam.
There are 2 steps in admissions

1) Entrance exam score, 10th grade, 10+2 grade, Graduation, Work experience from companies and your other achievement.
Note that TAPMI shortlist based on your entrance scores , marks and work experience, so if you don't have any work experience, you may find difficult to get admitted also you didn't mention any graduation, you have to complete a degree course.

2) You have to give WAT, which is written ability test and personal interview and a statement of purpose are also asked in the admission procedure.
You are selected by this procedure.
Hope you get it, and if you have any doubts please do comment in the comment box.

My graduation score is less than 60%, if my cat score is very good and If I have 15 months of work experience, can i get into new IIMs, SP jain mumbai, NITIE mumbai or any top B school in India?

Shudhanshu Gupta Student Expert 28th Nov, 2019
Hello.
For your kind information i am informing you that IIM takes weightage of your class 10,class 12 , graduation and CAT, by which they judge you that how much persistence you are and are you finisher or not, depending on different IIM's the weightage of your academic vary from 30%-50%. Where sometimes weightage of your graduation vary from 10%-20% and if you want a call letter from new IIM's then firstly you should have a good academic score if you don't have in graduation then need to have in class 10,10+2 and your chances will come true through your CAT score, yes you can have chances of having call letter from new IIM's but for being at a safer side you need to have 98.xxxxxx- 99.xxxxxx percentile in CAT exam and your work experience will also judge your reality , but you will be judge first on the basis of your academics and CAT score .
Best of luck.

I have a GMAT score of 470 and an work experience of 39 months in Automotive Software development and BE aggregate of 83. What are my chances of getting to TAPMI ?

Malini S N 28th Nov, 2019

Since your aggregate in BE is 83%,you will satisfy the minimum eligibilty criterion(50 %) and you will subjected to shortlisting process. For candidates with work experience of two years or more TAPMI follows profile-based shortlisting. Profile considered for shortlisting consists of valid CAT/ XAT/ GMAT scores (whichever is higher), academic profile (10th, 12th, Graduation, backlogs during graduation etc.), work experience (type of company, total experience, etc.), extra-curricular achievements if any.For more clarity, you can visit the below given website

i have 71 % in my 10th, 75%in my 12th and 65%in my graduation i am belong to obc catagory and have 12 months of work experience so how much percentile that i required for getting admission in top 30 b-schools??

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 27th Sep, 2019
Dear Ankit, there are 20 IIMs and more than 1000 Institutions that accept CAT score and each has its own selection process.Because CAT exam will be held at different slots, CAT scores will be normalised to ensure equivalence in the difficulty levels of the exams for both slots. IIM Kozikhode will normalise the CAT scores using percentile equivalence. Adjustment of location and scale differences of score distributions across different norms and then scores will be normalised. The 20 IIMS and all the Participating Institutions will announce their Cut offs. The cut off is prepared after checking various factors. MBA aspirants will have to apply separately to all the Colleges that accept CAT scores. While CAT score remains the main criteria for selection, IIMs also consider other factors like previous academic performance, work experience, gender and Academic diversity. CAT exam paper can be Categorised into 3 parts:

Quantitative Ability

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

On an average, you will need your CAT percentile to be atleast 85-90 depending on the Institution that you want to join. For all Institutions, at different stages of Selection process, Application rating process is included. For example, IIM Bangalore follows this process:

For all the Candidates shortlisted, the 10th and 12th board results are initially adjusted by dividing each such score by 90th percentile score of that board. And then an adjusted score is calculated for the Bachelors degree for each of the candidates based on the final scores obtained by the candidate are used for the Bachelors degree and professional degrees. For example,

CAT = 40

10th board = 20

12th board = 10

Bachelors = 20

Gender Diversity = 2

Work Experience = 8

The 40 points for CAT are derived from the performance in each of the three sections as follows:

Verbal & Reading Comprehension - 14 points

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning - 16 points Quantitative Aptitude - 10 points.

my 10 ,70% and 12 ,70% and graduation 75% how much %tile i will require to get admission in top 30 college of mba by cat im in sc category my graduation is bca and i have no work experience

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 27th Sep, 2019

Dear Shubham, there are 20 IIMS. And if you belong to SC Category, you will need to score atleast 60-75 percentile in CAT because each IIM has its own selection critera. Top IIMs like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Indire, Lucknow etc will need a minimum of 75 percentile and new IIMs will need atleast 70% for your Category. Now, because IIMs also look into your Academic profile, Diversity factor, course in which you completed your Graduation and work experience, you might lose out on few points as BCA is a regular course and you do not have work experience. So to be shortlisted for IIMs, you should score higher on CAT to balance your lack of work experience and normal BCA degree. Then you have to perform real good in WAT and PI rounds. But to be shortlisted for IIMs, your target shoud be atleast 80-85 percentile. Now that takes care of 20 IIMs. And for the top B schools, it should be atleast 75 percentile.
