According to u is percentile is good or worse than earlier system in CET exams. If worse than in what cases it has proved worse??
Hello Yash,
In an exam, your percentile shows that you are ahead of that much percent of the candidates which appeared for the exam.
Percentile system has both its Pros and cons in case of CET when compared to an earlier score system.
Pros-
1. Percentile shows where we stand as compared to everyone who has appeared for the exam. If only marks are declared then you cannot gauge yourself with others.
2. It doesn't highlight actual marks. So if you have secured say half the marks of the maximum marks i.e. 100 out of 200 and still, you are the topper you would feel great to just tell others that you are a 99.99 percentiler, rather than telling you got 100/200 marks.
Cons-
Until last year marks were declared. The cutoffs were also in terms of marks. So it was easier to guess the college based on marks. As ranks or marks are not declared yet it is becoming difficult for students to know or guess which college will they get on basis of percentile.
As Percentile system is introduced in this year, this pain will last for this year. As for next year, the cutoffs in terms of percentiles will be available.
So, there is nothing wrong in declaring percentile, but at the same time they should have also revealed the marks obtained.
Hope your doubt is clear!
