The Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh 2027 academic session eligibility criteria are as follows.
1. Academic & Residency Status
-
Status: You are in Class 12 this year (2025-26) and will be passing in 2026; you will be eligible to apply for the 2027-28 session.
-
Requirement: You must be a permanent resident (Domicile) of J&K or Ladakh.
-
Board: You must pass your 12th from a recognised board like JKBOSE or CBSE within the specified years ( the current year and the previous two years are eligible).
2. Family Income & Father's Profession
-
Income: Your family income is less than Rs 8,00,000, which is the primary financial eligibility threshold for PMSSS.
-
Father's Rank: Your father being a Police Constable does not disqualify you. In fact, PMSSS is specifically designed for students whose families fall within the income limit, regardless of whether the parent is a government employee or a private worker.
-
Note: Do not confuse PMSSS (Special Scholarship for J&K/Ladakh) with the PMSS (Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme for Wards of Police/CAPF). You might be eligible for both, but PMSSS is the one that covers your full tuition and maintenance for studying outside the UT.
-
3. Category Advantage (RBA)
-
Reservation: Having an RBA (Resident of Backwards Area) certificate is a major advantage. PMSSS follows the reservation policy of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir.
-
Benefits: Seats are reserved for RBA candidates. If you don't make the "Open Merit" cutoff, your RBA category will provide a separate, lower cutoff for seat allotment.
