Research is not limited to a definitive part.You can literally choose any field for research,there are no such fields that won't be having research going in it.
So some of the fields having good scope are as follows
Biotechnology is gaining up speed in terms of research as there is immediate need of medicine or equipment that a country may need
Chemistry as an whole subject can be considered for research.
Then you have space studies research,that study about various galaxies,various behavioral pattern of solar system studies for making a launching vehicle and so on
Therefore it depends upon your area of Interest as every field needs invention.
