CSIR NET is conducted by CSIR body whereas the UGC NET Exam is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency).

CSIR UGC NET is conducted by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), while UGC NET is held by National Testing Agency (NTA). CSIR UGC NET is held in offline mode, while UGC NET is conducted in online mode. CSIR UGC NET has only 1 paper, while UGC NET has 2 papers.
However, the biggest difference is that CSIR UGC NET is held for awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) NET and for Lecturership (NET) in subjects under the faculty of science and technology, in Science streams only. The streams/subjects for which CSIR UGC NET is held are (1) Chemical Sciences, (II) Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, (III) Life Sciences, (iv) Mathematical Sciences and (v) Physical Sciences. On the other hand, UGC NET is conducted for awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) NET and for the recruitment of Assistant Professors (NET) in subjects related to arts, commerce, law, regional languages, foreign languages, music, social work, etc.
UGC NET and CSIR NET exams have differences in various terms. UGC NET Exam is conducted by the University Grants Commission while CSIR NET exam is conducted by Human Resource Development Group (HRDG) of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR).
Primarily these both exams are having differences in two areas i.e. Subjects and Exam Pattern.
UGC NET Exam is conducted for almost all subjects of every stream while CSIR NET exam is organized only for the science stream subjects. This is the major difference between both exams.
CSIR NET Exam has only one paper of 3 hours while UGC NET has two papers with the time duration of 3 hours. Each paper of UGC NET has its own specific duration.
