Yes, Mechanical engineering has good scope in India. It is one of the oldest branch in India. Now-a-days the scope of mechanical engineering is expanding beyond its traditional boundaries and is more of inter-disciplinary in nature.
Mechanical engineers can work in industries like thermal power plants, gas turbines, oil, refining, agriculture, education, aviation, automobile, armed forces, pharmaceutical and much more.
The typical salary range for a mechanical engineer fresher is between INR 10,000/- to INR 25,000/-
The salary differs as per the industry and the level of the company, Some salary packages often vary based on your skills, experience, expertise and the nature of roles and responsibilities you handle. Skilled professionals can take away a high salary as INR 40,000-45,000 lacs.

As Stil said I too agree with him but if not it's your passion better don't opt that and also if you're interested in techie , you can opt cse/ece or in any construction you can opt civil . There are so many options but you need to follow your heart by taking suggestions from your mind.
