does civil engineering have good career in future??
The demand for skilled civil engineers will never slow down worldwide as infrastructure projects, constructing the building, and much more structure will keep on increasing and will never be stagnant.
The highlights of Civil Engg in LPU: -
1. Most of the faculty staff is from reputed organizations with their highest degree from various reputed institutes such as IITs, NITs, etc. Apart from that, faculty have got previous industrial experience also.
2. The capstone project is an integral part of B. Tech program in which students have to pick a live project based on practical problem-based scenario (ideally from industry) and work for six months under a mentor and present a report at the end. This is beneficial to enhance your presentation skills.
3. There is an internship program which could be an opportunity for getting work experience and increase your chance to get employment after you pass out. But, of course, your academic record should be good to get this placement option.
4. Industrial visits are organized to nearby construction sites from time to time. There, you can see actual construction work going on. Be prepare to have dust on your shoes (believe me, it will be worth a lot). You have to ask questions yourself and trigger interest in the activities around you.
In Civil Engineering LPU emphasizes the evolution of manmade infrastructure as LPU understands how they have evolved to the present scenario. With the advancement of technology in leaps and bounds, the future of civil engineering in the years to come will be crucial, especially with the establishment of smart cities. LPU is nurturing our students to adapt and be equipped with this ever-changing scenario. To cater to these needs the department is structured into five vibrant centers of studies:
Structural. Hydraulics. Environment. Geotechnica. Transportation. As per my friends experiences, those are graduated in civil from LPU. LPU is Imparting knowledge through site visits, case studies, real-time designs of structures. It has well-equipped lab facilities like concrete testing, cement testing, soil testing, surveying, highway material testing, and structural mechanics. They are Teaching through PPTs, videos, images, and animations. Manual, as well as computerized structural designing skills with CAD and soft-wares like STAAD Pro, MX Road, are provided to the students. Expertise knowledge of planning in construction is provided to the student both manually as well as software MS Project. For more information you can visit LPU website.
Hello. Hope you are doing fine.
Civil is one of the core branches of engineering and you can always make a good career in civil department. Civil engineering is one of the oldest branch of engineering and if you want government job after your engineering (which is indeed very wanting) Civil can be the best branch for you. After completing your engineering you can work as a contractor or designer or you can join top companies like L&T, TATA projects etc.
Hello !
Yes , definitely Civil Engineering has a very good scope in future.
According to a report published in The Economic Times, 95 billion sq. ft. is the predicted demand in the real estate and construction industry by 2020. Which is the disciple of civil engineers , being a civil engineer you will get a exploration in production and construction industry . And as you know that due to recent conditions all the work of production ,construction and supply is freezed , but when the lockdown is removed and condition will get normal there will be a high demand of good workforce.
Also , By completing your graduation from best engineering institutes, you can work on sustainable infrastructure solutions, green buildings, and more all over the globe.
Also , you can consider a career in many sectors like , Coastal and ocean , Structural , Materials and Urban.
Hope it helps ! If you have any further query please feel free to ask
It has a a future but not that excellent. Now a days most of the industry is based on Artificial Intelligence and robots and so manual workload has decreased drastically. Industry is mostly searching for Computer Science and Electrical engineers, that's the truth. And statistics displays that majority of Civil Engineers change their stream to Computer Science or Management after Graduation. Rest depends upon you, if you have deep interest in the stream and you believe you can grow in it, then you may opt for it.
All the best.
Dear Mounika
There has been a little dip in number of civil engineering aspirants because some other streams are thought to be more glamorous. Due to this dip, the good civil engineers which corporate sector looks are in great demand.
When the economy in last 28 years is going full steam, the entire landscape of the country has seen a sea change. And this change will keep on going for another century on back of infrastructure push, public spending and rising incomes among the population.
All these thing point towards a huge construction push in next few decades, and we will need skilled Civil engineers to execute all this.
From homes to buildings to office spaces to factories to malls to entire cities to motorways to airports to hospitals to corporate complexes… every project needs civil engineers to execute!
I would say that Civil engineering has a huge scope of jobs in private sector, government sector, higher education and entrepreneurship.
Some private sector job profiles available are:
- Engineering project managers
- Sr Civil engineers
- Engineering manager
- Civil engineer
- engineering inspectors and regulatory officers
- Civil engineering drafter
- Civil engineering technologist
- land surveyer
Job opportunity in Public sector Undertakings (PSUs)
If you are technically strong, you can apply for PSUs (https://www.constructionplacements.com/psu-companies-list-public-sector-undertakings-in-india/) . Nowadays they are mainly dependent on the GATE score. They are publishing advertisements regularly in the national newspapers. So, prepare hard for GATE. Practically all civil service positions in public works departments are held by civil engineers. This is also, one of the best civil engineering career options.
Various Government departments like the Central public works department (CPWD), Department of Atomic energy, etc. conduct their own exams for recruitment. Following are the major Public Sector Companies hiring Civil Engineering Graduates:
NTPC – National Thermal Power Corporation Limited
BHEL – Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited
ONGC – Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited
HAL – Hindustan Aeronautics Limited
GAIL – Gas Authority of India Limited
SAIL – Steel Authority of India Limited
IOCL – Indian Oil Corporation
BSNL – Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited
ISRO – Indian Space Research Organization
Start a Civil Engineering and Construction Business in India
Although there are very few names in India, the picture is changing quite fast. This is an untapped market and therefore has the biggest potential. Civil Engineers can team to innovate and come up with ideas that better the process of design & construction.
On conclusion I would say that there are ample opportunities for deserving Civil engineers, the only thing which matters is your skill and knowledge. Here comes the degree, your degree must be done from top institutions like IITs, NITs, PEC, Thapar, LPU etc in order to make a cut in the industry.
Wish you all the best.
