See this is a very subjective matter and the policies regarding this rests solely with the college you are applying to. In some premier colleges like Birla Institute of Technology and Science there is zero attendance policy which means that even if you don't go to class the whole year, there will be no problem. However in some colleges like IITs or NITs, 50 percent attendance is necessary. So, it would be best to contract your college about this.

You should must attend college daily to maintain minimum attendance percentage for your academics. If you wont maintain minimum attendance then there are chances to detention. colleges take attendance regularly for every classes. and as a student it is your responsibility to maintain attendance.
colleges will ring to parents if the student does not maintain minimum attendance percentage.
