Percentage in 12th for engineering varies from exam to exam.

Through JEE Main you can take admission in government colleges like NITs/IIITs and CFTIs.
To be eligible for NITs/IIITs and CFTIs you have to score 75% marks in your boards exam or you should be in top 20 percentile. For SC/ST students qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class exam.

You can also take admission in DTU and NSIT through JEE Main only counseling will be held separately. According, to the eligibility criteria you must have secured at least 60% aggregate marks or more in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Through JEE Main some top private colleges also provide admissions in which 75% criteria is not required.

For engineering aspirant, JEE is the entrance test which is conducted country wide. For JEE you need a minimum 50% in class 12th. But if you wish to get admission into NITs, IITs, IIITs, GFTIs then you need to secure a minimum of 75% in your boards.
There are many other university level entrances for engineering like we have SRMJEE for that you need 65% minimum in your class 12th.
