There are thus three C’s that are key to success in an IIM interview - consistency, clarity and confidence about yourself .
How do you build this?
- Question Yourself : Ask yourself all the possible questions that you think you maybe asked - from the generic “Tell me about yourself?” to the specific “Why an MBA now if you’ve already got a management consulting offer?”. I made a list of all these questions (at least 50+) and wrote them down on a Word Document, a lot of these were inspired by IIM interview experiences. This effort will make you confident
- Answer Yourself : Once you have these questions in place, write free flowing answers to each of these questions. Let them be open ended and imperfect. While you write these answers a lot of unanswered questions will be answered, and you will understand a lot more about yourself. This effort will bring you clarity
- Refine Yourself : Now that you’ve written all these answers, read them again and say them out loud (take the help of a friend or a sibling). You will realise that there may be contradictions in your answers or inconsistencies in what you say. Iron them out and improve your answers. This effort will bring consistency.
The IIM interviews sound harder than they actually are - you turn out to be much better than you think if you put in the effort.
If you feel that the CAT went well - start preparing, the headstart will be useful.
