“Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” – Margaret Mead
Group discussion – Personal Interview, A REFLECTION OF YOU
Wondering why did I start with this quote? Well, this is
something that you need to embrace as your mantra for PI.
If you are someone from a small town like me you might not be
able to compete on GK or Internships done. What makes you
different? Why should they take you and not anyone else?
Because you got a 9 9 9 throughout? Or because you have a
99+%lie? Or are you a current affairs wizard? Well guess what
they have people from IITs and NITs with 999, almost all the call
getters are 99+%lie, There are people who were preparing of
UPSC but are here and guess what there are people with work experience
of a managerial position. So why then should they take you?
Don’t worry you have something others don’t, to crack IIM Interviews, (https://vikingscareerstrategists.com/how-to-ace-the-interview-skills/) GD & WAT.
Those are your experiences. Maybe you come from a rural area, or you are
artistic or something else. Sit down introspect and think what
makes you unique and trust me you will be able to find your USP.
So talk in stories tell them the situation problem your solution to
the problem and the results. Talking in stories will make the
interview more of a conversation and more interesting. They are
bored listening to the same answers again and again and this will
also clam your nerves.

Be thorough with your academics and all the HR questions, I would
advise you to be genuine and truthful because I don’t know about
you but I cannot lie and still be confident and they are experts as
well so if you want to take a chance on fooling them go ahead or
else stay true just introspect and you will have enough content.
For Group Discussions and Written assessment test, I will just read as much as you can, if you want to crack IIM Interviews, GD & WAT.
Content brings confidence and then practice mock GDs and Write WATs,
but the content will always be the king. Join a GD-PI class if you
may take mock interviews and GDs and be confident.
Starting the GD is not always good. If you want to start, make
sure you give structure to the discussion and then add your point
as well.
Quality over Quantity always, please don’t be that person who
speaks a lot but speaks things that do not make sense or are
repetitive, if you want to crack IIM Interviews, GD & WAT.
Try not to cut other’s points. Sometimes you will have to but
don’t go to a point where you are cutting everyone’s point and
speaking too much. Even if you are speaking correctly you will
have a negative mark for this.
Learn to listen to others do not try to jot your points every time
others speak even if you are thinking in the head have a habit of
looking towards the person speaking and nodding in between.
But if you actually listened and added something to their point it
will show you are a good listener, and it’s important in a
Discussion in real-life discussions you will be focusing on
coming to a solution for problems and its a synergic exercise, not
a competition. You might not come to a conclusion in a GD but
don’t keep fighting as if this were a debate.
