At your percentile You may get calls from some new and baby IIMs. Your previous low academics may cause hindrance during shortlist at the reputed IITs and IIMs. You may have got calls from MDI, and perhaps from IIT Madras. If shortlisted please be prepared to reason for your low academic score during GDPI round.

CAT is a very competitive exam and each year around 2 lakh candidates give the CAT exam to get admission in the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIMs). Now as per trends seen in previous years , for candidates having a GEM profile (General Engineering Male ) like yours , it has been seen that the CAT cut offs for the old IIMs have been extremely high. A GEM candidate has to score above 99.5 percentile to get calls from the old IIMs namely Ahmedabad , Bangalore and Kolkata. So based on your CAT score , you have very low chances of getting calls from these old IIMs as your academic scores of 12th and UG are average. This is because academics too play a crucial role and hold some weightage in the shortlisting of candidates the IIMs give calls to. Now the weightage given to the various factors are different for the different IIMs as each IIM has its own selection process. For example IIM Ahmedabad gives around 30% weightage to your CAT score and 70% weightage to your academics which includes 10+2+UG scores. IIM Ahmedabad does not give weightage to work experience however IIM Bangalore is seen to give weightage to candidates having work experience. IIM Calcutta on the other hand is seen to give more weightage to your CAT score than your academics. So as you can see each IIMs have their own selection criteria. The same rules apply to the IITs as well.
