yes, it is necessary to qualify in both of the papers, and your marks in each paper should be equal or more than the cutoff marks in each of the papers. however there is also individual cutoff marks you need to get in each paper. both of the papers contains questions from physics, chemistry and mathematics. you may follow the below link to know in details,
