Hi, my son is in 12th with commerce applied maths as his subjects. Wanted to have proper guidance and clarity on his college admissions and guide for the preparations for IPMAT and CUET
Hello there,
Since your son is in Class 12 Commerce with Applied Mathematics, he has a very good combination for management entrance preparation. It is absolutely possible to prepare for both IPMAT and CUET together, but the preparation should be planned carefully.
What I would suggest
- Keep IPMAT as the main target if he is interested in IIMs and a 5-year Integrated Management programme. IIM Indore's IPM admission test includes Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability, and Commerce students with Mathematics/Applied Mathematics can prepare well for the Quant section.
- Use CUET as a strong backup/parallel opportunity. CUET offers subjects including Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics/Applied Mathematics and General Test, but the exact combination required depends on the university and programme.
College planning is like this:
Don't restrict the plan only to IIM Indore. Depending on his performance, consider IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya and other IPM/management programmes, while keeping strong CUET universities as alternatives. The accepted entrance exam varies by institute.
Wishing your son all the very best for his future studies and career. May he achieve great success and fulfil all his dreams. Best wishes from my side to him!
