Hi Nishu. Since you have completed 1st year of M.A. Psychology and are pursuing 2nd year, you have a few relevant options in special education.
If by “diploma in special education mental disability” you mean D.Ed.Spl.Ed.(IDD) — Diploma in Education–Special Education (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) — it is an RCI-recognised 2-year diploma designed for special educators working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
Can you do it through distance education?
This is the important part: D.Ed.Spl.Ed.(IDD) is listed by RCI as a regular-mode diploma, not among its approved distance-mode courses.
However, because you are doing M.A. Psychology, you could consider an RCI-approved distance programme such as B.Ed.Spl.Ed.(ID) if you meet its eligibility requirements. RCI currently lists IGNOU and BRAOU Hyderabad, among others, as approved institutions offering B.Ed.Spl.Ed.(ID) through ODL.
What about fees?
Fees for D.Ed.Spl.Ed.(IDD) vary by RCI-approved institute, so there isn't one national fee. I would not recommend paying any institute until you verify that the specific institute and 2026–27 batch are RCI-approved. RCI is currently processing/maintaining approvals for the 2026–27 academic session.
