If you get 20 questions correct per section you should get to 99 percentile overall I guess. This question cannot have a specific answer actually. The difficulty of the questions in a particular section also matters. For example when I gave CAT I attempted 20 questions in the DI/LR section and got about 16-18 right and I got 99.8 percentile in that section. This was the toughest section of the three during my year. Quant was the relatively easier among the three that year. I got 23 correct but got 97.8 percentile in that.

Moreover it is also important that you give equal importance to all sections. It is possible to get 99 percentile by scoring outstandingly well in one of the sections but that will not help you. Most of the good institutes have section cut offs. In my year people had to score at least 80 percentile in each of the sections to get a call from the old IIMs. This was of course one of the criteria.

So, you should focus on how you can maximize the score in each of the sections. And the best way of doing that is giving as many mock tests as you can. Mock tests help you identify weak spots and where you need to work on. Give at least 30 mock tests before the actual exam and you are good to go.

Out of 100 questions, if you attempt atleast 50% of the questions correctly then you can easily get percentile above 95-97.

And to an approximation, if you attempt 60-65 questions with maximum accuracy then you can definitely get above 99 percentile.
