Let us talk about the rank then score. For getting CSE in top NITs rank should be in top 4000. But you can still get in above average NITs till 7000. At maximum even combining lower NITs 13000 will be last.
Since the normalization is done on the score it has been quite difficult to determine marks with rank. For example a student in a shift with 180 marks had rank around 10000, but a student with 221 had 18000 rank in some other shift. So, you can now decide by own.
