There have been 3 levels of NITs. Not all NITs are the same. If you want to get a CSE in any of the NIT Tier 1, your rank in JEE MAIN should be <2000. When you need a CSE in one among the tier 2 NITs, then your rank in JEE MAIN should not exceed 5000. As well as if you only want an NIT tag (which you shouldn't really be a major tag as the NIT tag is not), your rank should be less than 10,000 for CSE.
