Hello Dear Student,
To become a college lecturer in India , the usual pathway is:
- Complete a Bachelor's degree in your subject.
- Complete a Master's degree (typically with at least 55% marks).
- Qualify the UGC NET exam in the relevant subject.
- Apply for Assistant Professor/Lecturer positions in colleges and universities.
For government and central universities, qualifying University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (NET) is often the key requirement.
If you want to teach in engineering colleges:
- Complete B.Tech/B.E.
- Then M.Tech/M.E. in the relevant field.
- Many colleges recruit faculty based on postgraduate qualifications, though a Ph.D. is increasingly preferred.
If you want to teach in commerce, arts, science, management, etc.:
- Bachelor's → Master's → UGC NET
- A Ph.D. can significantly improve career prospects and promotion opportunities.
Typical progression:
- Assistant Professor
- Associate Professor
