If you want Core jobs then you have to concentrate on CAD/CAM, Solid works, Ansys, etc softwares To get software jobs you should have coding knowledge on C, C++, Java, Python, Oracle etc languages.
To prepare for GATE you should be strong in your core subjects like Machine Design, Thermal, Production Technology, Heat Transfer, Strength of Material, Engineering Mechanics and some more subjects. Prepare for GATE from 1st year itself. There's going to be high competition. So to withstand the competition you should prepare well for the exam.
Prepare a schedule and on daily basis prepare for GATE exam by preparing a proper and effective tine table. Then there won't br neeed of any coaching if your self preparation is effective and good.
