i am getting 41 marks before normalization in gate 2017 morning session. can i get into NIT?

And if specialization is not important...like I would like to persue environmental or transportation engineering. Is there any chance of getting in old NITs?

With this score chances are less to get IITs and good NITs but you can try for lower NITs if you want. And to check where all you can have admission chances, below Gate college predictor you can use-
