To become an IAS officer, you first need to complete your graduation in any subjects from a recognised college. After that you become eligible for appearing in UPSC examination. Lakhs of students appear in UPSC examination, only a few hundred are selected for IAS role based on their performance in written UPSC examination and interview. First of all, if you think that you want to be an IAS then I will suggest you to go for Bachelor In Arts.
You can take majors Political science or sociology.
This subjects help one to crack any government exams like UPSC, SSC CGL and State Public Comission Exams and RRB too.
This subjects are very informative and easy to understand.
I will say if you belong from Arts background then please go for it but if you are from other background like Science, I will suggest that think twice or thrice or hundred times before changing streams.
UPSCs syllabus is unrecognizable and it changes with time.
So. work hard and start reading newspaper and always motive yourself.

IASis the short form ofIndian Administrative Service. It is one of the prestigiousservices among the 24 services like IPS, IFS etc for the which the UPSC conduct Civil Services Examination (CSE) for selecting the candidates. An officer selected into the Indian Administrative Service gets exposure in very diverse roles like the collector, commissioner, head of public sector units, chief secretary, cabinet secretary etc. Not only the experience and challenges but also the scope of making positive changes in the life of millions in India makes IAS a unique career choice.
How to become an IAS officer?
Even though the exam to be undertaken is popularly known as IAS exam, it is officially called UPSCCivil Services Exam. Civil Services Examination(CSE)

Now coming to your question, you may be knowing that IAS is Indian Administrative Services, one of the positions recruited by UPSC through Civil Services Examination.
You need to have a Graduation degree to apply for UPSC CSE. The degree can be obtained in any stream recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC). Therefore, you can pursue your college from any part of India, whichever suits you.
