I got 97.9 percentile in Jan Mains this year, and if it had been the best of the two attempts then i would've got no more than 21k rank. But as of now 30m more students are getting themselves enrolled in the second attempt...How will it affect my overall Rank in Mains. Explanation required.

You expected rank is going to around 18249 in JEE Main January session and the formula to calculate your expected rank is (100-your total percentile)*869010/100
869010 is the total number of candidates appeared in January session.In July session 12,00,000 candidates are expected to appear now your expected rank in July can be calculated by the formula (100-your total percentile)*1200000/100.Suppose that you have secured the same percentile in July session your expected rank will be around 25,200.So with the increase in number of candidates appearing your rank increases but if you score above 97.9 percentile in July session your rank decreases depending on number of candidates.And the best of two is rank you have secured in January session if you score less in July session.

Hello,
There are 2 sessions of jee main per year. Candidates can appear one or both. From two, best scored session will be considered.
It will effect as candidates are getting chance to improve their score. Even if we consider 5-10% of candidates improves then it will effect your rank in thousand.
It is benefit for candidates who have failed or have very low score but it has negative impact as the performance curve tries to change after 2nd session.
