Depending upon your qualification, you could work as technologists or technicians at medical laboratories. One may start off by working as technician. After gaining work experience, one may rise through the posts and even become lab manager.

Lab technician
Lab supervisor /manager
Lab assistant
Instructor/Tutor
Graduates of Lab technology usually pursue phD in pathology. PhD in pathology is offered by the follwoing institutes:
- Datta Meghe Insitute of Medical Sciences Entrance Exam
- Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences Entrance Exam
- Geetanjali University Entrance Exam
- Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Entrance Exam
While there are very few specific phD programmes in pathology in India, pursuing phD in labs dealing with infectious diseases in centers such as Regional malaria research centers or labs pursuing infectious disease research in institutes of national importance is a good plan. Further you can apply for PhD abroad, several colleges offer phD in pathology abroad.
