I want to be a military engineer in DRDO....so i should do btech or any other course?
f you want to join the Military Engineering services after B.Tech degree(Civil Engg, Elect. Engg and Mech Engg only) you have two options.
If you want to be a Officer:
Appear for Engineering services exams (ES), done by UPSC, if you get selected and good rank choose IDSE (Indian Defence Service Engineers).
You will become a Class ‘A’ gazetted Officer and start as an AGE (Assitant Garison Engineer)
If you are OK with medium level supervisory post: Join as a JE(Junior Engineer)(Class ‘B’ non-gazetted post): Read below steps
As a JE (Junior Engineer): previously it was only for diploma holders but these days B.TEch degree holders are also elgible.
Look for Exam notification for Recruitment of Junior Engineers in CPWP, MES, CWC, etc. conducted by SSC.
If you get selected then you will be posted as a JE.Mech. Engg and Ele. Engg students get E&M dept.( Electrical and Mechanical) and Civil Eng. students get B/R (Building & Roads) or QS&C(Quantity surverying and Quality control Dept.)
You can also get into MES as class ‘D’ employees as MATE(the lower most post with qualification being only 10th pass or ITI through zonal exams conducted by different CWEs under different commands. We have seen many b-tech and even Mtech guys coming in the MATE category.
Hope you find it helpful
